THE ADVENTURER. Actor Joe Taslim has just returned from his family trip to New Zealand. He sits down with DA MAN to share his experience
Joe Taslim is, undoubtedly, one of Indonesia’s most successful actors. The Palembang-born actor began his showbiz career in 2007 as a fashion model, appearing in TV commercials and magazines—not excluding DA MAN’s first anniversary issue. As of recent dates, the ex-judo athlete starred in blockbuster movies such as “The Raid,” “Dead Mine” and “Fast & Furious 6.”
Off the movie set, Taslim is both a family man and adventurer. He travels regularly, and it so happens that New Zealand is a destination the father of three seems to have a soft spot on. The story began a year ago when Taslim first visited “The Land of Long White Cloud”—what the native Maoris would call their land—with DestinAsian Indonesia magazine team.
“New Zealand is the place where you can feel the freshest air and water in the world. It’s true!”
The unique culture, cuisines and native inhabitants were some of the things that excited him. Nevertheless, New Zealand as a whole offers more than that. The serenity of the island is completely enchanting, yet, being an ex-pro sportsman, Taslim didn’t skip a chance to try out some thrills and spills. He took on boating and hiking, along with exhilarating activities such as visiting the volcanic sites and bird watching. Following that trip and due to his fascination over the Kiwi country, he was appointed as Tourism New Zealand’s “tourism influencer” in Indonesia.
“Rather than in some of the more common places like Europe or America, I want to shoot a movie, clip, or commercial in New Zealand”
Once is never enough though when it comes to traveling to New Zealand, and thus the actor decided to have his wife and three children tagged along on his second trip. “New Zealand is a place where you can feel the freshest air and water in the world. It’s true!” gushes Taslim to DA MAN. During that jaunt, Taslim saw different facets of the beautiful country. He visited the Waiotapu Geothermal Park and sailed around Auckland. The breathtaking scenery of New Zealand was completely mesmerizing, to which he enthuses, “Rather than in some of the more common places like Europe or America, I want to shoot a movie, clip, or commercial in New Zealand.” Also a highlight from the trip is his chance getting up close and personal with the members of Maori tribe and performing a hongi, a traditional Maori greeting. Last but not least, Joe Taslim and the family spent some time touring around the magnificent sets of “The Hobbit” movie trilogy there.
