The first collaboration between the two worlds
Nothing is stopping Virgil Abloh. For the first time ever, the multi-hyphenate designer is collaborating with German luxury automotive marque Mercedes-Benz. Titled “Project Geländewagen,” this venture sees the designer create an art project inspired by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class model, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2019.
The collaboration represents the union of two worlds: automotive with fashion and art. Abloh worked closely with Mercedes’ chief design officer, Gorden Wagener, to see the project through. The artwork will be revealed on September 8, 2020 and a home-scale replica will be auctioned off with proceeds going to art-focused charities.

“Mercedes-Benz is a brand that stands for luxury and exceptional performance. Truly a perfect chassis to interject modern artists’ ideas of what the future can be stylistically, within conceptual car design,” said Abloh.
