In a celebration of two iconic symbols from the 1970s, Tissot has partnered with the beloved Japanese manga UFO Robot Grendizer to create a special edition watch that merges Swiss craftsmanship with nostalgia for vintage anime. Both the Tissot PRX and Grendizer debuted during the same decade, each capturing the spirit of their time in distinct yet impactful ways. This collaboration breathes new life into their legacies, forging a bridge between worlds and generations.
The collaboration introduces the Tissot PRX UFO Robot Grendizer, a timepiece that blends the vintage design of the PRX with the heroic elements of the anime. Fans of the original manga, which took Europe by storm in 1978, are invited to revisit the adventures of Grendizer, while newcomers can explore the cultural phenomenon through the lens of Swiss watchmaking excellence. As a side note, a remake of the original anime series, now titled “Grendizer U,” aired from July to September this year.

The watch’s design reflects this perfect fusion. It is housed in a 40mm stainless-steel case and features a deep, luminous blue dial, inspired by Grendizer’s iconic color. A yellow Super-LumiNova bust of the robot hero glows on the dial, while the second hand, designed in a Harken style, adds a dynamic touch. The rotor is intricately engraved with imagery from the series, and the upper flange features the anime’s original title (&#8220;UFO ロボ グレンダイザ) to underscore the authenticity of the collaboration.

Powered by Tissot&#8217;s Powermatic 80 movement, the watch combines cutting-edge technology with nostalgic design. With a power reserve of up to 80 hours, a Nivachron balance spring for precision and water resistance up to 100 meters, this timepiece is as reliable as it is evocative. The box design, modelled after Grendizer’s UFO-inspired Spazer spaceship, adds a playful yet personal touch and features original artwork by series creator Go Nagai.
Nagai himself has expressed his admiration for the collaboration, noting how the PRX and Grendizer both symbolize the optimism and innovation of the 1970s. “By merging UFO Robot Grendizer&#8217;s fight for a better future with the PRX&#8217;s journey of marking life&#8217;s milestones, we’ve crafted a watch that is a true tribute to their legacy,” he said.
