DAMAN: Can you introduce yourself?
Tony Kordysh: My name’s Tony. I’m a programmer, musician, and model. I mostly split my time between Chicago and LA, but I was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. My family emigrated from Russia in the early 90s. I was the first in my family to be born in the states, soon followed by my younger brother, Nico. Nico’s currently in LA, chasing his dreams in the music world as a singer/songwriter. We collaborate on his music, and it’s always a blast. These days, I’m deeply into self-improvement, focusing on both my physical and mental wellness. My current life goal is to explore diverse experiences, places, and cultures. I want to broaden my horizons to understand more about myself.
DA: When did modeling become something you wanted to pursue?
T: I actually started modeling as a child, mostly doing print work in Milwaukee where I grew up. It was my older sister who introduced me to it. This past summer, I got back into modeling while in LA. What I love most about it is the synergy between the model, photographer, stylist, and everyone else involved in a shoot. It’s cool when the final outcome reflects everyone’s collective efforts. It allows me to step out of my comfort zone, and even though I used to do it when I was younger, modeling still feels very new and exciting.

DA: What role does music play in your life?
T: Music is profoundly significant to me. Its ability to resonate deeply and uniquely with different people fascinates me. Growing up, I loved rock music and picked up the guitar at 10, inspired by my idol at the time, Jimi Hendrix. Jazz caught my interest in middle school and then rap in high school. But rock, particularly 90s grunge, is still my favorite. I listen to music everyday and I use it as a tool to shape my mindset. I listen to certain music when I want to relax or when I need to buckle down and work.

DA: What about the music you work on and how you collaborate with your brother?
T: I started working on music in high school when I recorded a mixtape with some friends in my parents’ basement. This ignited my interest in music production and audio engineering. I later worked at the Chicago Recording Company for a few years in my early 20s. Around then, Nico was refining his skills and emerged as an exceptional vocalist. We’ve released several collaborative projects since. He’s now signed to a record label and is working on his debut EP. Nico May – go check him out, he’s an amazing singer.
DA: How did you get into programming?
T: During the pandemic, work in audio was slow. I had an interest in programming, and having a background in audio engineering, I decided to try my hand at software engineering. I ended up doing a coding bootcamp and landing my first tech job in late 2021. The journey’s been steep, but rewarding. I treasure the freedom that comes with it – the ability to work from anywhere, it’s a blessing.

DA: What are your goals for this year and beyond?
T: Primarily, I’m channeling my energy towards health – nurturing a clear, calm mind and a strong, healthy body. Of course I want to do well with my work and explore new opportunities as well, but I think prioritizing my well-being is the foundation for any future success. I want to be the best me I can be. It’s not just for personal growth, but to be there in the best possible way for my loved ones as well.
