As part of Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2021 Pre-Collection, the Canadian basketball player heads the first capsule collection with the NBA.
Creative Director Virgil Abloh merges the values of Louis Vuitton and American sports with the LV x NBA limited edition menswear capsule collection, marking three years of partnership between the French luxury house and the basketball league. Canadian basketball player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is currently playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, stars in the campaign lensed by fashion photographer Othello Grey. In charge of styling was Drew Ferguson, with production from Carina Mak.
Abloh commented on his designs: “This collection celebrates the cultural contribution of basketball and its diverse characters, and the idea of relatability as a force of unity.”
Sporting the red, white and blue tones of the NBA logo, pieces from the project include the Christopher backpack, Nil messenger and Keepall duffle, as well as a newly designed multi-pocket backpack with white contrast straps and monogram. Rounding off the collection is a range of footwear options and jewelry in yellow gold. The overall inspiration came from the idea of a player’s wardrobe, the capsule features travels and transits, game arrivals, and press conference.
