Riccardo Tisci Appointed Chief Creative Officer of Burberry

MYSTERY SOLVED. One of the biggest questions in fashion circles, “Where will Riccardo Tisci head off next” has finally been answered

When Riccardo Tisci stepped down from his position as Creative Director at Givenchy, speculation ran rampant as to where the Italian designer will head to next. Many thought it would be Versace, but now it has been confirmed that Tisci would succeed Christopher Bailey as the Chief Creative Officer of Burberry following the latter’s departure from the British fashion brand, which was announced in October 2017.

“I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand,” Tisci noted. “I am honored and delighted to be joining Burberry and reuniting with Marco Gobbetti.”

Marco Gobbetti is Burberry’s CEO. Interestingly, he also “inherited” his current position from Bailey and at one time worked for Givenchy. In fact, it was Gobetti who, in his previous post as chief executive at Givenchy, hired the then-unknown Tisci. During his 12 years at the French fashion house, Tisci turned Givenchy into one of the leading brands under the LVMH group.

It’s certainly interesting to see what kind of creative direction Burberry will take with Tisci at the helm. While Bailey put a lot of focus on the brand’s heritage, Tisci is known for more decadent expressions of creativity. He also has more experience and expertise in areas that Bailey is not exactly known for, such as eveningwear.

In short, one of the major highlights of the coming seasons will definitely be Tisci’s Burberry.
