Restaurant Review: E&O

EAT THE EAST. As regular readers of DA MAN already know, our cuisine columnist, chef Will Meyrick, is one of Bali’s most renowned chefs

He’s won great acclaim for his elevated interpretations of classic Southeast Asian dishes at two of the island’s most beloved restaurants, Sarong and Mamasan. Meyrick has spent over a decade traveling to every corner of the continent picking up authentic recipes by tracing them back to their sources. “The Street Food Chef” has finally brought his acclaimed cuisine to Jakarta in the form of E&O (Menara Rajawali, 1st Floor, Jl. DR Ide Anak Agung Gde Agung, Megakuningan, Jakarta; 62 21 2902 3418; eandojakarta.com).

Backed by some of the same people behind Loewy, the restaurant’s decor embodies a similar brasserie vibe that feels upscale but casual at the same time. The dishes reflect Meyrick’s extensive travels, with a menu that features dishes primarily from Thailand, Vietnam and Burma. Food here comes in large portions that are meant to be shared. His rich bold curries and buttery and crisp roti chanai are a match made in Asian food heaven.
