Restaurant review: Bistro Garçon

BISTRO FARE FOR ALL. Despite the abundance of high-end eateries located in Jakarta’s opulent shopping malls, it is still rare to find one that pairs genuine atmosphere with sincere and delicious food.

Bistro Garçon (Plaza Senayan, Level 4, Jl. Asia Afrika no. 8 Jakarta; 62 21 5790 0140) manages this feat. While the white-walled interior and exposed metal ceilings are slick, playful touches like the purple neon lights forming a pair of lips give this bistro a fun and inviting vibe. The food is classic French fare done right, with highlights including perfectly rendered steak frites, croque monsieur and roasted chicken, However it is the tempting desserts that will likely draw in many, with beautiful macarons, pavlovas and pastries beckoning from the display case. Garcon also has a rotating menu of daily specials and off-the-menu items, so be sure to check their Twitter feed so you don’t miss out on delightful dishes such as squid stuffed with bacon and spinach.
