Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada’s Menswear Debut

Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada’s first joint menswear collection has finally been revealed.

Nearing a year since Simons was first announced as Prada’s co-creative director, the Belgian designer and Miuccia Prada debuted their Fall/Winter 2021 men’s collection with a short film, followed by another post-show Q&A, live from the house’s Milan headquarters.

Titled “Possible Feelings”, the livestreamed show marks the second debut of the two designers’ collaboration after the womenswear of Spring/Summer 2021 collection. “The collection focused on the joy of touch, movement and physical freedom –described by Prada as ‘an intimate and personal wish for contact, or urge to exchange and relate,’” AnOther Magazine describes.

The show featured furry textured walls and carpets which were accompanied by a plethora of dynamic models sporting mod-esque slim-fit suits, striking haircuts and an abundance of Raf Simons-inspired looks. If the pair’s first joint collection was said to demonstrate a fine balance between classic Prada and distinctive Simons, this first menswear offering is almost certainly more Simons-orientated.

The collection itself brought together an array of pleasing colors and textures in modern, angular silhouettes. Crafted in “topography of feeling”, the collection is full of geometric-patterned jacquard knits and leathers, Prada signature nylon and bouclé tweeds, and a classic pinstripe wool suiting.

The epochal Prada logo that adorned much of last season’s women’s collection has been portrayed in the form of triangle cutouts and knits on garments this time around, while the accessories retain the classic metallic look.
