A message from our Publisher/ Editor-in-Chief Ronald Liem

Change in the fashion industry is as inevitable as the march of the seasons. naturally, this also goes for the people whose talent and vision have literally shaped our perception of style. While changes in personnel happen all the time even in the most storied maisons, it’s hard not to feel as if we’ve just witnessed a major shift in talent across the entire industry. And as a result, this fall/winter 2018/19 season sees the last creations of Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton, Kris Van Assche for Dior Homme, Christopher Bailey for Burberry and many more. This is not the first time that the top talents of these houses have changed, and it won’t be the last, but it’s still a bitter sweet period. Of course, making up for this are a range of powerful swan songs amid this season’s impressive collections, as well as the promise of new creative direction in many prominent brands—which have been teased during the latest Fashion Week season, to be fulfilled in about six months’ time.

The balance of what changes vs. what endures continues through the faces of fashion featured in this issue of DAMAN Style. Both Stuart Vevers from Coach and Ray Kelvin from Ted Baker have struggled with introducing change while maintaining their respective brands’ core principles. Among our featured models, the stories are a bit more diverse, however. Edward Wilding, our cover boy this time around, channels much of his energy towards his family and his passions outside of modeling—yet he maintains a solid career. Seasoned model Philippe LeBlond, on the other hand, now lives on the road and spends most of his time on adventure. Yet, his career remains as strong as ever. The secret shared by these two models—as well as by Argentinian models Mariano Ontañon and nicolas Ripoll who are also in this issue. Embracing change (such as social media) while sticking to the fundamentals (from the importance of agencies and good old fashioned hard work).

As the saying goes: Fashion fades, style remains.

Naturally, there’s a bit of this principle in DAMAN Style as well (and in DAMAN as a whole). We embrace new ways to reach out to our readers and to fans of fashion, through social media, our website and also video content. Yet, the core of DAMAN Style remains: Top tier fashion photography and tories of those who shape the world of style. Happy reading!
