The Japanese fashion house has taken a minimalist approach, highlighting beauty in subtractive aesthetics.
Known for its unique DNA that blends sports with fashion and innovation, Japanese label Onitsuka Tiger unveiled its spring/summer 2023 collection at the prestigious Milan Fashion Week. Designed by creative director Andrea Pompilio, the collection is informed by a Japanese minimalism approach: Details elevate the status of simple garments, while flowing silhouettes and oversized constructions lend a relaxed look. The main palette consists of white and black, with touches of yellow and green—a nod to the beauty of Japanese basil leaves.
The collection is home to a range of ready-to-wear items, including T-shirts, tank tops, kimonos and blouses. There is also a pleated skirt along with oversized pants and the label’s signature jumpsuit, now in an ultra-baggy iteration. Anticipating the cold days that will linger at the early days of spring, Onitsuka Tiger also presents outwear creations including knitwear pieces, a trench coat, a hoodie and a jacket. The jacket, as it happens, can be paired with the cape from the trench coat.
Naturally, Onitsuka Tiger has also presented a range of accessories and shoes. The house’s emblematic SERRANO sneakers are transformed into the TIRRACK model, bearing bold motifs that resemble tiger scratches. These are, without doubt, one of the collection’s biggest highlights. Furthermore, baseball caps and bowling bag-inspired bags also make their appearance; while elsewhere in the collection, a pair of special headphones by Danish audio equipment manufacturer Bang & Olufsen add a modern, urban touch.
