For Dior’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, Kim Jones delves into Dior’s archives once again and manages to present a fresh take on the maison’s heritage
Added: In celebration of Jones’ five-year tenure at the house, the Dior Men Spring/Summer 2024 collection paid homage to the designers who came before him at Dior, including Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferré and Marc Bohan. One thing that connected them all was Christian Dior’s cannage, the famous pattern by the house founder based on the woven rattan chairs in which guests sat at his first salon show in 1947.
The collection showcases a blend of tradition and innovation, bridging the gap between feminine and masculine aesthetics, from salon to street and from classic New Look to contemporary New Wave. It intertwines the histories of men’s and women’s fashion, merging British tailoring with haute couture craftsmanship.
The pieces exude a modern, playful and practical vibe, effortlessly combining luxury with utility. Classic menswear items like Harrington jackets, polo shirts, crew necks and cardigans are elevated through symbolic techniques, such as tweeds, embroideries and the iconic cannage pattern.
