If your definition of an icon is “a star who pushes boundaries,” then look no further. Korean pop star G-Dragon has not only given a new flavor to the country’s pop music scene, he has also daringly experimented with his personal style.

Having started his singing career since he was five, the singer-songwriter shot to fame as the leader of a boy band called Big Bang in 2006. The group spared no effort in their chart-topping performances and ushered in a new period of K-pop. G-Dragon eventually worked on his solo career and launched his first album in 2009. In 2013, he embarked on a world tour while collaborating with some of the music industry’s biggest names such as Skrillex, Missy Elliott and Diplo for his latest album titled “Coup D’état.”

“Believe in yourself don’t worry too much, think positively”

The 1988-born artist is indeed the very definition of a star: He produces catchy beats paired with from-the-heart, sometimes in-your-face, lyrics; he has the attitude and swag that make his on-stage performance arresting; he has evolved into a style chameleon whose appearances are anything but plain or safe. Clashes of colors, materials and shapes are part of his style lexicon. He has pushed boundaries in a lot of ways and has become more than just a performer but a living icon that redefines the ideals of a modern male artist.
