Hublot was just a small independent brand when it introduced the Subaquaneus, its first watch designed for the sea, in 2004. This model laid the groundwork for Hublot’s deep connection to the ocean. Fast forward twenty years, and Hublot has grown into a disruptive force in watchmaking, renowned for its technical innovation and fearless design. Despite its meteoric rise, Hublot’s love for the sea remains unchanged and as strong as ever. This passion is perfectly embodied in its partnership with Swiss professional sailor Alan Roura, who has been sailing the world’s oceans since 2022 with Hublot as his trusted timekeeping companion.
In 2024, their collaboration resulted in the Big Bang Unico Hublot Sailing Team, which reflects both Roura’s high-seas adventures and the brand’s continued commitment to precision, performance and a passion for the ocean.

Design-wise, this exceptional timepiece is a striking tribute to Roura’s craft, decked in the same black and yellow color scheme as his IMOCA sailboat. The choice of color is deliberate, with black and yellow paying homage to the original black and gold Hublot Classic from the 1980s—a bold combination that helped Hublot build its reputation as a brand willing to break boundaries.
Another interesting point to note is that Alan Roura, like Hublot, is Swiss. And the synergy between the sailor, his boat and his timepiece is unmistakable. The Swiss flag, proudly displayed on Roura’s IMOCA, also finds its way onto the watch, emblazoned at 9 o’clock alongside the sail number “SUI 7,” which identifies his vessel during races. The Swiss heritage underscores the unity between the sailor, the brand and the watch, as they strive for the same goals: precision, durability and performance.
At 42mm, the Big Bang Unico Hublot Sailing Team has a compact yet powerful presence. The case is constructed from polished carbon fiber, an incredibly robust and lightweight material, perfectly mirroring the structure of Roura’s IMOCA. Its strap, on the other hand, is designed to mimic the woven texture of a sail and is therefore made from fabric with an ultra-resistant black polyurethane coating. The word “HUBLOT” is set prominently across its surface—mirroring the brand’s name displayed on Roura’s mainsail.

Beneath its dial, the watch is powered by the HUB1280 Unico Manufacture calibre, which has a 72-hour power reserve. The movement’s aesthetics areequally remarkable, with its column wheel on display at 6 o’clock, reminiscent of the winches Roura uses to adjust his sails during races.
But perhaps it is Roura himself who best described the watch: “This is the third year running that I’ve worked with Hublot. I’m impressed, as always, by their ability to constantly push their own limits. I have been sailing with a Big Bang Original since 2022, but this Unico Sailing Team is even lighter and more robust. In racing, everything comes down to precision and reliability. I need to be able to count on my equipment 200 percent. It’s the fusion of the skipper and his equipment that makes the difference.”
