How do I do a mountain climber workout?

  1. Prepare the mattress on a flat surface. Start in a push-up position with your hands shoulder-width apart and your body in a straight line from your head to your toes.
  2. Bring your right knee up to your chest, keeping your core engaged and your back straight.
  3. Lower your right knee back down and repeat with your left knee.
  4. Continue alternating legs, moving quickly and smoothly, pretending you are running or doing fast high knees on the mattress.
  5. If you’re a beginner, start with 10–15 reps on each leg for 30-45 seconds. Remember to take a break between sets. As you gain strength, you can increase the amount of repetitions or the speed at which you perform them.

 

Tips: You can make this workout more challenging by raising your speed or adding weight on your body.

 

To achieve the best results from this workout, try the following suggestions:

  1. Keep your hips level with the ground and don’t raise your buttocks to the sky like you’re doing a pike push-up.
  2. Drive your knees up to your chest, not your elbows. Maintain a flat back during the entire workout.
  3. Begin the mountain climber carefully to gain a feel for the movement. When you’re comfortable with the form, you can increase your pace. Do not overstrain your neck by bending or arching it. Maintain a level posture with your shoulders.
