DEFYING GRAFFITI. Fashion powerhouse Louis Vuitton has an eye for art and since 1980s established a collaboration with painters of the likes of Sol LeWitt, Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama.
Especially for the fall/winter 2013-2014 season, three graffiti artists are invited to interpret the house’s signature giant rectangular. Among them is Eko Nugroho, a Yogyakarta-based artist whose works graced the Indonesian Pavilion at Venice Biennale 2013. For Louis Vuitton, he clashes vivid colors, filling the drawing of mystical creatures – part human, part nature – all imbued with a heavy urban-and-pop influence.
