Andrea Pompilio delves into the fine art of combining layers for the Onitsuka Tiger Spring/Summer 2024 collection
During Milan Fashion Week on September 20, 2023, Onitsuka Tiger unveiled its Spring/Summer 2024 Yellow Collection, aptly named “Personal Layered.” This collection delves into the art of fashion layering, skillfully combining layers, asymmetries, cutouts and margin play to offer an array of personalized style expressions. It builds upon the brand’s iconic layering theme, maintaining a sophisticated and modern aesthetic.
Onituska’s spring/summer colelction plays with the concept of layering, utilizing cocoon-silhouetted outerwear that remains lightweight, complemented by tops, shirts, polo shirts, Bermuda shorts and wide trousers to create asymmetrical layers. The collection features highly unique pieces, reinterpreting men’s classics in a contemporary context, tailoring is soft yet precise, highlighting fabric layers and textures.
Materials play a crucial role, with double-faced cotton fabric providing structure without stiffness and see-through nylon knit revealing glimpses of skin. Additionally, a floral print, developed in collaboration with Japanese textile graphic brand nowartt, incorporates the four elements—earth, water, fire and wind—conveying the comfort of harmony with nature. The knitwear is adaptable, featuring cutouts below the sleeve joints that allow for conventional wear or knotting on the chest.
The color palette features black, cement grey, and sage green, contrasting beautifully with the floral prints. The collection maintains its connection to Onitsuka Tiger’s iconic Tiger Yellow, appearing in select looks, footwear, and bags. Additionaly, the collection introduces new sneaker designs with various heights, including slip-ons, high-cuts and ankle boots, all with coated canvas uppers and bold yellow accents on the soles. Leather boots in yellow and black, along with nude laced sandals with ankle-tied platforms in Nappa leather or velvet, offer diverse choices. Guided by Andrea Pompilio’s creative vision, Onitsuka Tiger continues to blend the worlds of sports, heritage and innovation in their latest Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
