From a young age, Dorian Reeves knew modelling was in his future; he just had to go for it. He tells DA MAN Style the story so far

Dorian Reeves may be only 21, but he already has a mature head on his shoulders. Yet despite already modelling for Calvin Klein and walking for Versace, he remains grounded and focused on the next step in which he hopes to employ his creative side. An adrenaline junkie who gets around his newly-adopted hometown of New York City on his roller skates, skateboard or fixie—Canadian-born Reeves is going places fast.

DA MAN: What made you decide to commit to modelling at such a young age?
Dorian Reeves: I realized the gravity of the opportunity in front me, after that I simply followed my dream.

DA: What attributes do models need most?
DR: 4 P’s: Personality, Professionalism, Patience and Persistence.

DA: Getting started as a young professional in the industry, what did you have to learn?
DR: Quite a lot, but mostly I’ve learned how to trust the process and to be patient at all times. But I’m grateful for every up and down. Everything that happens is a learning experience.

DA: What are your thoughts on the fashion industry in its current form?
DR: Well, it’s still about handshakes, connections and politics, but the industry has been forced to embrace things like social media, which gives models a great way to promote themselves.

DA: Who is your favorite fashion designer to work with?
DR: Ermanno Scervino.

DA: What is the most exciting project you have ever been involved in?
DR: It would have to be shooting the Revolution cover of Vogue Italia, shot by Steven Meisel who is a joy to work with.

DA: Out of all places you’ve been to for modeling jobs, which one is the most memorable?
DR: Of all the places I’ve traveled, New York has my heart. Born in Canada but made in America!

DA: What is it in modeling that you still want to achieve?
DR: I’m interested in getting more creative projects—John Paul Goude’s project with Grace Jones, for example, blew me away.

DA: What do you get up to in your down time?
DR: Rollerblading! I’ve been on my rollerblades or fixie (fixed gear bike) nonstop for the past couple of months. I can’t seem to get enough!

DA: If you weren’t a model, what would you be doing?
DR: If I wasn’t modelling, I would be in school on my way to becoming a dentist. Yes, I’ve always been fascinated with dentistry!
