Appointed as the successor of Christian Dior at the age of 21, being the first couturier to launch a ready-to-wear collection in 1966 and having liberated women with his Le Smoking suit during the 1970s, designer Yves Saint Laurent has definitely led an extraordinary life. Chronicling the designer’s ups and downs since the beginning of his career in 1958 is the eponymous biopic “Yves Saint Laurent.” The movie offers a glimpse into his life-defining moments in fashion while highlighting the tumultuous relationship with his longtime lover and business partner, Pierre Bergé. With some scenes filmed at the original venues and Bergé’s foundation loaning 77 vintage outfits from Saint Laurent’s archive to the documentary crew, this title definitely feels authentic.
