The first novelties of the year are still some time away, so here’s a quick look at some nifty timepieces from TUDOR, Hublot, Cartier, Grand Seiko and several others for your consideration…
Form Follows Function
TUDOR recently introduced the Pelagos FXD GMT, a robust tool watch that extends the FXD platform’s legacy by incorporating functionality essential for aviators. This includes the ability to track up to three time zones—Zulu time, local time, and a third time zone. Crafted from lightweight grade 2 titanium, the 42mm case houses the METAS-certified MT5652-U Manufacture Calibre for precision under extreme conditions. The high-contrast dial and orange-lacquered Zulu hand ensure legibility and is enhanced by dual-tone luminescence: blue for local time and green for Zulu time, which is the military term for UTC. Designed for mission-critical precision, the Pelagos FXD GMT exemplifies TUDOR’s commitment to functionality and durability.
Vintage Touch

Hublot has presented the third chapter of its highly-sought-after Essential Grey series, unveiling two Classic Fusion models that epitomize understated elegance. Defined by a singular color and design, the latest release completes a trilogy alongside the Big Bang Unico and Spirit of Big Bang Essential Grey. The new Classic Fusion Essential Grey models feature 100-percent titanium cases in 42mm and 45mm, paired with satin-finished bezels and the signature six H-shaped screws. Their sunray-finished dials, textured rubber straps and integrated design uphold Hublot’s timeless aesthetic. Powered by the HUB1110 and HUB1112 calibres, these models deliver precise engineering and a 42-hour power reserve, showcasing Hublot’s mastery of blending form and function.
The Iconic One

The Cartier Privé collection returns with its eighth iteration, spotlighting the timeless Tortue, a design first introduced in 1912. Renowned for its tortoise-shell-inspired shape, the Tortue exemplifies Cartier’s mastery of form. This year’s collection reimagines the classic design through the Monopoussoir Chronograph and a minimalist hours/minutes version. The latter offers refined elegance and is available in platinum or yellow gold, with clean lines that emphasize material and craftsmanship. A notable first for Cartier Privé is the diamond-set platinum version featuring a silvered opaline dial. The yellow gold model, meanwhile, pairs a golden-finished dial with a blue alligator strap for striking contrast. Powered by the manually wound 430 MC caliber, these timepieces seamlessly unite tradition and modernity in Cartier’s signature style.
Special Collaboration

Audemars Piguet launched a groundbreaking collaboration with New York-based artist KAWS, which resulted in the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “COMPANION.” Limited to just 250 pieces, this 43mm titanium marvel reimagines haute horlogerie through a playful yet provocative lens. At its heart lies KAWS’ iconic COMPANION, a miniature 3D figure integrated into the titanium dial plate, complete with X-shaped eyes and a dissected chest revealing the watch’s tourbillon. Encased beneath sapphire crystal, COMPANION interacts with the watch’s surface, creating a dialogue between art and time. Meanwhile, the new hand-wound peripheral hour and minute movement inside the Calibre 2979 movement gives pride of place to the tourbillon on the dial side at 6 o’clock. The innovative peripheral time display shifts focus to the character, highlighting Audemars Piguet’s pursuit of pushing creative boundaries and merging fine watchmaking with contemporary art.
Timeless Aesthetic

Grand Seiko commemorates the second anniversary of its Asia Pacific establishment with the launch of the SBGJ285. This limited-edition timepiece pays homage to the iconic 44GS design and Japan’s natural beauty, celebrating the brand’s timeless legacy. Inspired by the cascading wisteria flower, the dial features a new purple dial color called “Fuji-iro,” symbolizing nobility and fleeting elegance. Its textured surface mimics swaying blossoms, embodying the impermanence of time. The 44GS case in Ever-Brilliant Steel showcases sharp lines and mirror-like surfaces, ensuring durability and brilliance. Powered by the Hi-Beat 36000 GMT Calibre 9S86, this watch offers exceptional precision and dual time zone functionality, making it a versatile choice for travelers.
A Poetic Way

The Slim d’Hermès Flagship captures the poetic essence of Hermès, blending fine watchmaking with artistic craftsmanship. This 39.5mm yellow gold limited-edition timepiece is inspired by Dimitri Rybaltchenko’s silk scarf design, which depicts a vessel sailing under a starlit sky—a nod to Hermès’ flagship boutique at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Its aventurine dial showcases a bronzed decoration achieved through intricate micro-painting and engraving. The ship, carved in relief and hand-painted, comes alive amid shooting stars, while a playful star at four o’clock dances with wrist movements. Powered by the ultra-thin Hermès H1950 self-winding movement and paired with a blue alligator strap, this watch embodies artistry and elegance.
