The French brand’s fall/winter 2021 menswear collection was presented in the form of a medieval-themed film
Dubbed “Teen Knight Poem,” Hedi Slimane’s fall/winter 2021 menswear collection for Celine was revealed by way of a short film titled “Noveau Romantique” which was shot at the Château de Chambord, France. Appropriately, given the title of the clip, Slimane’s latest menswear creations channel the British New Romantic subculture and the 19th century’s Romanticism movement.
Unveiled through a presentation filled with stunning theatrics, in a way that only creative director Hedi Slimane can pull off, “Teen Knight Poem” is Celine at its most mysterious and exciting. Directed by Slimane himself, the 13-minute film begins with heavy drums. Knights on horses ride towards the glorious structure of the Château de Chambord, each carrying a flag bearing the “Celine” monogram. The ivory castle becomes the runway as troops assemble. Dozens of waif-ish models with shaggy hair and kohl-rimmed eyes ready themselves to walk across the castle turrets, past the battlements in the latest creations from Slimane’s Celine.
It was regency meets armor: Armor-like leather jackets tossed over denim and ruffled cotton Renaissance tops, Fair Isle sweaters alongside grommet-studded ski masks bearing the Paris-house’s logo, and floor-grazing capes paired with silver chains.
The film also featured original music. The soundtrack is titled “Time Slip” and was performed by The Loom. It’s a special project formed for this show by George and Jack Barnett from the British band These New Puritans and commissioned and co-produced by Slimane.
