TAG Heuer returns to the Formula 1 grid with an updated Carrera Chronograph Sport, refining its proportions and racing-inspired design for a new generation

With Formula 1 descending upon the Spanish capital for the inaugural FORMULA 1 TAG HEUER GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA 2026, TAG Heuer has chosen Madrid to unveil the next generation of the Carrera Chronograph Sport. As both Title Partner and Official Timekeeper of Formula 1, the brand is making the most of a setting closely aligned with its motorsport heritage.
The Carrera’s connection to racing runs deep. Before Jack Heuer introduced the model in 1963, the brand had already been advancing the standards of timekeeping on the move. Inspired by the prestigious Carrera Panamericana race, the original Carrera was engineered with a clear objective: legibility at high speeds. That design philosophy has remained central to the collection through successive generations of new materials, mechanical movements and aesthetic approaches.

The latest Carrera Chronograph Sport carries that legacy forward with a comprehensive exterior update. Building on the framework established with the Chronograph Sport’s 2020 debut, the case has been refined from 44mm to a more adaptable 42mm. The lug-to-lug measurement has also decreased from 49.8mm to 48.6mm, while overall thickness has been reduced from 15.48mm to 14.17mm. The result is a more balanced profile on the wrist, with a visible steel cradle and polished ceramic insert framing the bezel and reinforcing the watch’s sporty character without compromising the Carrera’s clean, purposeful lines.
That balance of modernity and performance continues with pushers whose forms draw inspiration from engine pistons and advanced propulsion systems. A subtler detail appears on the upper-right lug, where the Victory Wreath, a hallmark of contemporary Carrera releases, is discreetly inscribed as a nod to the collection’s association with achievement.

The new collection also introduces five dial variations, each built around the same structural framework while taking a distinct visual direction. The iconic blue dial is available with either a metal bracelet or brown perforated leather strap, pairing a sunray-brushed surface with silver subdials and a matching blue ceramic bezel. A modern teal-green iteration follows the same approach in a more contemporary shade.
The black opalin version leans most explicitly into motorsport, with black subdials and bold red chronograph accents referencing automotive dashboard design. Meanwhile, the silver variant takes on a classic panda configuration, with black counters contrasting against the silver dial. Across the lineup, Arabic numerals replace the previous model’s hour markers, giving the Carrera Chronograph Sport a stronger visual identity within the broader collection.

Completing the launch is TAG Heuer’s proprietary Calibre TH20-00, which offers an 80-hour power reserve. It is paired with a tapered H-shaped steel bracelet featuring an easy-link adjustment mechanism that allows the wearer to modify its size at home without tools. An additional perforated leather strap draws further inspiration from traditional motorsport design.

With revised proportions and updated details, the latest Chronograph Sport builds on Jack Heuer’s original philosophy while giving the Carrera a more contemporary profile. Its Madrid debut, timed to Formula 1’s latest chapter in Spain, brings the collection back to familiar territory with a distinctly modern edge.
