As Bvlgari’s famed Octo Finissimo family celebrates its 10th anniversary, a series of new references continue to expand the collection’s success story
This year is an important milestone for Roman jeweler and watchmaker Bvlgari. For one, 2024 marks the brand’s 140th anniversary, just as one of its most groundbreaking collections—the Octo Finissimo family of watches—turns 10. Since its debut at the 2014 edition of the Baselworld fair, the Octo Finissimo collection has garnered acclaim for its ultra-thin designs. In the years to come, this line would go on to break world record after world record for the thinnest automatic watch, thinnest tourbillon watch, thinnest minute repeater and so on.
And now, the Octo Finissimo’s saga continues into its 10th year with a series of exciting new references, in tandem with novelties from the Octo Roma and Serpenti watches.
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC
The Octo Finissimo Ultra was first introduced in 2022 and gave Bvlgari its eighth world record—that for the thinnest automatic watch at just 1.80mm thick. Two years later, the Roman watchmaker shattered its own record with the 1.70mm-thick Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC. And, as the name implies, this limited-edition watch (only 20 pieces have been made) is certified by COSC (the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute).
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Platinum
The first Octo Finissimo Ultra from 2022 was crafted in titanium. For 2024, besides the aforementioned record-breaking, COSC-certified model, Bvlgari also introduced an Octo Finissimo Ultra crafted in platinum. Also limited to just 20 pieces, the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Platinum features the BVL 180 manufacture manual winding mechanical ultra-thin movement that also powers the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC.
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Manual
Creating an ultra-thin watch with a mechanical movement only 1.95mm thick is already an outstanding achievement; creating one with a complication as complex as a flying tourbillon puts the watchmaker at an entirely different level. The two new variations of the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Manual continue to showcase how Bvlgari combines the best of Italian aesthetics with Swiss haute horlogerie know-how. The first model is housed in a sandblasted titanium case with black DLC treatment, the other in a satin-polished rose gold case; both are powered by the BVL 268SK manufacture manual winding mechanical ultra-thin skeletonized movement with a flying tourbillon.
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic
Besides the two manual-winding versions mentioned above, Bvlgari has also introduced an automatic variant of the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon in a satin-polished platinum case. The luxurious case houses the BVL 288 manufacture automatic winding mechanical movement that measures only 1.95mm thick and boasts a skeletonized architecture along with the flying tourbillon complication.
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Sketch
While the Octo Finissimo line is known foremost as a platform of mechanical ingenuity, it also provides an excellent canvas for ingenious design. Highlighting this point is the three limited-edition Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Sketch models: Two Octo Finissimo Automatic Sketch models in steel and rose gold, along with the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Sketch. The dials of these models feature an illustration of their movement by Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Bvlgari’s Product Creation Executive Director, in the style of Renaissance era schizzi or sketches. Mechanically-impressive and visually-captivating, the Octo Finissimo Sketch is definitely a highlight of 2024’s haute horlogerie landscape.
