Riccardo Tisci presents his first menswear-only collection, which honors a deep connection to the outdoors, to creativity, and to dreams in Burberry’s fall/winter 2021 collection.
TitledEscapes, the collection gently challenges and subtly reinvents traditions, inviting freedom of expressions. Tailoring has a sense of twisted classicism, whilst quintessential house codes—the trench coat and Burberry beige—are evolved. Details and decoration evoke the notion of the ceremony through badges and adornments, symbolizing community and friendship, codes of belonging.
“For my first Burberry menswear-focused collection, I wanted to celebrate the freedom of expression. Enclosed indoors, I dreamt of the outdoors and its beauty, fuelled by the thought of the creativity that comes when we are together,” Tisci states.
Following the fashion house’s outdoors-inspired pre-collection last month, in which Tisci drew on Burberry’s connections with the great outdoors with the reworking of signature brand staples, the fall/winter 2021 collection continues in much the same vein.
With clear references to the outdoors and getaways, Burberry reworks its classic around these trends. Thus, it dignifies this sense of freedom in a set if adventure-ready garments. Trench coats and jackets have been redesigned with pleats, panels and bangs to reflect movement and activity. While a stripped wool duffle coats and reconstructed varsity jackets in plongé leather and cotton cashmere are arguably the stand-out pieces.
Accessories like the oversized messenger bag, pocket bag and a range of umbrellas act as a continuation of Tisci’s outdoors focus, while the house’s nod to wildlife is realized with deer-inspired silhouettes of knitted beanies and footwear on molded soles sculpted to resemble hooves.
