Dolce & Gabbana Man turns 20
The Dolce & Gabbana Menswear line was launched with the fall collection in 1990. This fall 2010 season marked 20 years of this Sicilian sartorial extravaganza, courtesy of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The well-respected brand is known for signature Italian couture with a tendency to be a bit irreverent, while maintaining an acute sense of Italian elegance. NY Times fashion critic, Guy Trebay says: “It does not seem likely that many people could have envisioned a way to turn distressed jeans or sluttish corsets or pointy-toed shoes or slick suits or football jerseys into an irresistible global export. Yet Mr. Dolce and Mr. Gabbana did.” So we now look forward to 120 more.
To commemorate their 20th, they have done a number of things including outfitting the Chelsea soccer team and signing actor/singer Adam Bertrand as their newest brand ambassador for men. The latest fall-winter 2010 collection combines strong innovation with the Mediterranean flavor of its origins. This is a brand whose essence lies in its contrasting features. – Salli Paradisio
