SKY’S THE SPIRIT. Patek Philippe and pilot watches might not seem to walk hand in hand, but the novelty Ref. 5524 Calatrava Pilot Travel Time immediately puts that presumptuous notion down.
It recalls a natural watch design that fits the wrists and style of legendary pilots with big, legible Arabic numerals on a navy blue dial and a very strong color contrast that allows easy and quick reading. On the dial are two hour hands—the skeletonized one refers to the home or second time zone, complete with a day/night indicator at 3 o’clock. Two pushers at 8 and 10 o’clock are used to move the home time zone forward or backward in one-hour increments. Topping it all off is an analog date display at 6 o’clock, a new feature for the automatic pilots watches of Patek Philippe.
