PAY IT FORWARD. The spark of interest began when then “The Amazing Race” contender Blake Mycoskie and his sister traveled to Argentina for the show back in 2002
When he returned for a holiday there four years later, he fell for the espadrilles or alpargata shoes as the locals call them.
Mycoskie, who did volunteer work in Buenos Aires, also noticed how many children were barefoot at that time. He decided to set up a shoe company Toms (which stands for Tomorrow) that runs a “one for one concept”—it will deliver one free pair to a poor child for every Toms shoe product sold.
That said, Toms’ first store in Indonesia at Lotte Shopping Mall Avenue is definitely worth visiting, especially for these trendy plaid espadrilles.
