FOOTWEAR FOR GAMERS. Diesel and Street Fighter have come together to create a limited edition sneaker collection

Italian apparel company Diesel has announced that it will be creating a special capsule collection to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the legendary video game franchise “Street Fighter.” The limited-edition collection will consist of five high-cut sneakers with a color scheme that draws inspiration from five key characters of the game series.

The original “Street Fighter” was created by Capcom back in 1987 when pixels were all the rage. Through the years, the game has undergone various sequels, prequels, crossovers, animated movies and Hollywood even tried to cash in on the game’s popularity. Only last year did Capcom release “Street Fighter V,” the latest edition of the franchise that brought back many old character favorites and introduced some new challengers to the roster.

For the limited edition sneaker collection, as mentioned before, the style will draw inspiration from five key characters. Not only that, each shoe will bear distinct details on the heel counter and outsole that corresponds to their respective character’s special moves in the game. The five characters and their corresponding sneaker design are as follows.
- Ryu: The game’s leading protagonist inspires the white sneaker with red-and-black detailing. The hero’s signature “Denjin Hadoken” is featured on the sole of the shoe.
- Chun Li: The dominant blue with yellow-and-white detailing of the shoe is inspired by the franchise’s first female character’s costume. Her “Flying Bird Kick” is featured on the sole.
- Nash: Military green with black and yellow detailing are featured for this design. “Street Fighter” purists will complain that the “Sonic Boom” at the bottom of the sole is better fitting for Guile, but hard-core fans will know the correlation.
- Bison: The evil boss of “Street Fighter II” is represented by a red sneaker with black and white detailing, quite the opposite of Ryu’s. His “Psycho Power” is featured on the sole.
- Birdie: For the collection’s only black shoe, a less recognizable character from the series emerges to the surface. The British punk-rockers “Horn Bull” move set is featured on the sole.

There will only be 5,000 pairs of shoes “Street Fighter” x Diesel sneakers available. The collection will be available for purchase online on the Diesel website as well as selected stores in August 2017.
