Working with a rising star who is also a familiar face is always great. That day, just like the last time, Aurélie Moeremans arrived on set with her mother. And as soon as I saw her, I just knew that everything will turn out great. And that is pretty much how it went at the photo shoot with the always-cheerful Moeremans in her second appearance as a DAMAN Darling. Yes, she also appeared in our March 2016 issue to share her story. But, of course, she has moved forward quite a bit since then.
In her first appearance in the magazine, Moeremans stated that one of her dreams was to be cast in a film by noted Indonesian director Hanung Bramantyo. This year, that dream came true. “I’ve finally got it! I’ve got a role in a movie with Hanung Bramantyo himself!” she says with passion, opening the conversation. Moeremans plays as a young student named Asri, in “Jomblo Reboot.” “At the moment, I’m busy with the promotion of “Jomblo Reboot” with the entire cast of the movie,” she continues.

“My heart was beating so fast the first day I arrived on set,” Moeremans recalls with obvious excitement. “This is the first time I worked with him and I was afraid that he’d yell at me if I did something wrong, because rumor has it that he’s very strict and fierce. But after spending a day with him on location, truth be told, he’s very kind and patient. The rumors were so wrong.”
While the “Jomblo Reboot” took up quite a bit of her time, Moeremans does have several other ongoing projects. “One of my upcoming works is a movie titled ‘Mau Jadi Apa?,’ which is another comedy movie, and then there’s another one titled ‘Foxtrot,’ which is an action movie,” says Moeremans. “And I just started hosting the ‘Tonight Show’ with Desta and Vincent. In fact, right now, I’m currently preparing a  ballad album.”

Yes, you read that right. There is more to Moeremans than just acting, a fact that the 1993-born starlet has hinted at by posting videos of her singing on Instagram. “I get bored pretty easy, so I cannot stay in one production for too long. I’m constantly trying something new in order to beat the boredom,” explains Moeremans. “I really love to sing. I was very shy and sometimes I couldn’t really picture myself singing in front of people. But I do really love it, especially ballads, and that’s why I picked this genre for my first album. Hopefully, it’s going to be out early next year.”

“I think those who have never suffered from shyness have no idea how debilitating it can be, especially for someone in the entertainment industry like me”

Despite her many talents, Moeremans does have a side she has always tried to hide from the world. “Like I mentioned earlier, I was very shy and have low selfesteem. I think those who have never suffered from shyness have no idea how debilitating it can be, especially for someone in the entertainment industry like me,” she confesses. Then she adds: “I’m still fighting this shyness day in and day out, because I want to be more confident than I was before.”
Yet, it is exactly this kind of dedication that allows Moeremans to set herself apart from the rest of Indonesia’s rising stars. And, indeed, she acknowledges that she really loves her job as an actress. “Maybe that’s why I love being an actress,” she says with a smile, “because I’m getting paid to become someone else.”

As the questions turn to the future and the dreams that she still wants to fulfill, she replies: “Today, my dreams include playing in a psychological movie as a psychopath. And to have a small family, be always cheerful, happy and have a great career. It’s as simple as that.” Creating simplicity is anything but simple—but Aurélie Moeremans definitely plays this role well.
