One thing for sure when we’re talking about The Macallan, the brand has never failed to impress when it comes to presenting life-changing whiskies. Case in point: The Macallan No. 6. This particular whisky brings together a lovely collaboration between the art from their own Master Whisky Maker with the exquisite craftsmanship of the French crystal house, Lalique.
As a result, through the flawless crystal decanter that pays homage to the single malt’s heritage and its foundation stones through its use of facets representing the Six Pillars—incorporating the iconic triangular feature as a key element of its creation—resulting in a piece of timeless elegance.
The Story Behind
“Wood sits at the very heart of what we do at The Macallan and this range further demonstrates the vital role of our casks in the production of these superb whiskies. Our commitment to sherry seasoned oak casks is unquestionable and the 1824 Masters Series showcases The Macallan at its very best,” explains The Macallan’s Master of Wood, Stuart MacPherson.
Named after the six pillars of their own heritage, The Macallan No. 6 is encased in a stylish Lalique’s six-facet crystal decanter. The sunset-color whisky takes its character from first-fill Spanish sherry seasoned oak casks handcrafted by the master coopers of Jerez de la Frontera, the home of sherry.
Drawn from Spanish oak casks built by one cooperage in Jerez before seasoning for 18 months in the sherry bodegas with dry oloroso sherries, the beautiful bottle design enhances the enticing, rich dark walnut color of a classic Macallan, a celebration of richness and spice.
The Special Taste
As you take a whiff, you will undoubtedly feel its rich notes with raisins, dates and figs dominating the aroma scheme, while sultanas and toffee apples add texture and depth. On the other hand, the palate is heavy and sumptuous, similar to a rich fruit cake and oranges, which followed by ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and hints of clove. It certainly gives a silky smooth sensation with a long and full finish.
Rich in spice and dried fruit with a layer of heady orange groves, The Macallan No. 6 is an enticing, dark, whisky that surely delivers classic Macallan character. It feels rich and complex on the taste buds, yet the flavors remain so until the very last drop. All in all, whether drunk on the rocks or straight up, The Macallan No. 6 whisky simply tastes like no other.
