SECOND TIME AROUND. Adidas Originals by Alexander Wang returns, this time targeting cycle-wear, giving it an urban twist
Distorting the line between sportswear and urban-chick, the debut collection of Adidas Originals by Alexander Wang featured unisex apparel consisting of hoodies, sports jackets, shorts, trainers as well as footwear. For its second iteration, the fashion designer has added a new line of fashion that would hardly be considered as urban-sportswear. It might sound strange, but it seems the New York designer is focusing on bringing cycle-wear into the mainstream urban fashion scene. Biker-shorts, zippered cycling tops and tight Lycra onesies would look more fitting on a weekend cyclist than someone hanging in the club.
The new collection will be available in a color scheme that has been labeled “solar yellow”, which is like neon yellow, but much brighter. The choice of this color as well as the styles of the collection are based on a reference that draws inspiration from two opposing yet adrenaline fueled sub-cultures: cycling and raving. Apart from cycling attire, the collection also features accessories like striped beanies and a sporty yet stylish balaclava. Of course sneakers would be the appropriate footwear for such a collection, and for that a new sneaker style called the AW Hike Lo which combines a hiking boot, tennis sneaker, and raver platform shoe into urban all-purpose footwear will be available with the collection.
New Yorkers got the opportunity to get the collection before everyone else, but had to go on a unique scavenger hunt, searching for posters and sending text messages. Quite a fun, yet puzzling experience for some, just to get their hands on the collection. But if you happened to have missed all that, the collection will be available on August 5th at Alexander Wang and Adidas Originals flagship stores as well as online. Can’t wait to see people raving in cycling onesies.
