Anyone who has lived through the 1990s will definitely remember the heyday of Sean “Diddy” Combs and his many names (Puff Daddy, Puffy, Diddy and P. Diddy)
In fact, after reading his name in the previous sentence, you’re probably picturing one of his showy music videos—with its expensive cars and sexy women—at the moment.
Now try to forget it all. The 46-year-old hip hop mogul has matured a lot since those days, and to signify his “coming of age,” Combs is coming up with a new sophisticated men’s fragrance.
Sean John, as the fragrance is called, is the follow-up to his latest one, 3AM, which was rather unsuccessful, unfortunately. But apparently that failure didn’t deter Combs and fragrance company Parlux.
To embody that “maturity,” Combs enlists the help of perfumer Harry Fremont. Bergamot, which has been the signature touch of Combs’ fragrances, once again dominates the top notes; it’s mixed with mandarin, black pepper and water mint. The middle notes are composed of nutmeg, angelica, violet leaf and cardamom; while amber, musk, vanilla, sandalwood, amber wood and coumarin make up the base notes.
“With Sean John, it’s about him looking forward to this next phase of his life,” says Diana Espino, global vice president of marketing and brand development at Parlux, of Combs’ sophisticated fragrance. “At the end of the day, when the fashion show is over, when the party stops and the girls go home, he’s still Sean John.”
The fragrance will be launched in October at Macy’s.
