For years, the “Back to the Future” franchise has left us wanting for a flying Delorean, a Hoverboard that really hovers and a pair of self-lacing Nike Mag shoes. And soon, some lucky people will actually get a chance to own the latter. And we’re already jealous.
Nike first constructed a real-life Nike Mag back in 2011, which was later auctioned for US$ 10 million. All proceeds were donated to Michael J. Fox Foundation, whose aim is to fight against and raise awareness about Parkinson’s, a disease that actor Michael J. Fox suffers from.
The two parties are now partnering once more to come up with 89 pairs of the iconic shoes; the number “89” is taken from 1989, the year “Back to the Future Part II” was released in theaters. The shoes will be available globally through an online draw, although the majority of them will only be found in U.S. and Canada.
So how does one apply for the online draw?
All you need to do is visit nike.com/mag or Nike+ App, where you can buy a US$ 10 raffle ticket. The draw will run from October 4 to 11, and the winners will be announced on October 17, 2016.
Additionally, one pair will be auctioned in three cities, namely Hong Kong on October 11; London on October 14 and 17; and New York on November 12. All proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help its goal to further raise awareness about and finally find a cure for Parkinson’s.
