Citizen Watch celebrates a century of watchmaking

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS. In order to commemorate its 100th anniversary, Citizen launches a special collection

The Citizen Satellite Wave GPS Super Titanium F990 comes with a black background that suggests outer space. On top of that, the gold accent inspires the feel of beginning of the time.

Looking back through its history that stretches all the way back to 1918, Citizen Watch has always been about pursuing the essence of timekeeping. Fast forward to the present, a full 100 years later, and we see the brand taking on new challenges while pushing the boundaries of watchmaking technology.

With that spirit in mind, Citizen celebrates its 100th anniversary by launching a special collection. This new range includes nine models, all of which features Citizen’s proprietary light-powered technology called Eco-Drive. Furthermore, the individual models in the collection feature other exclusive Citizen technologies such as Super Titanium, Duratect, radio-controlled technology and GPS satellite timekeeping. A gold and black dial ring is featured prominently on all the models as a symbol of the Eco-Drive and to highlight the collection’s theme of the “moment when light is transformed into time.”

One of the key watches in the new collection is the Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS F990. This particular watch, by the way, synchronizes with satellites in orbit to ensure timekeeping accuracy anywhere in the world.

The Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS F990 also inherits the design concept of the original Satellite Wave that was launched back in 2011. The case design of the former is quite reminiscent of the latter, and also features an image of the Earth—which appears to float in space to suggest a satellite’s orbit—encircled by a metal ring embedded in the bezel.

While the case of the original model was made out of ceramic, this new limited edition chronograph feature Super Titanium—Citizen’s proprietary technology to treat solid titanium with its own surface hardening technology called Duratect—that makes the watch resistant to scratches, lightweight and gentle on the skin for added comfort. A black dial with gold accents complete the watch’s visual appeal.

On top of that, Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS F990 also comes with a perpetual calendar, alarm, dual time, light level indicator, power reserve indicator and a domed shaped sapphire crystal. This model will be launched later this year along with the rest of the collection. As a memorable landmark for the company and a historical moment for Citizen, this special collection is definitely worth waiting for.
