It was a night like any other in Los Angeles County on February 24, 1942. Past midnight, however, the air raid sirens were sounded throughout the city as a total blackout was ordered. Between 3:16 a.m. and 4:14 a.m., 1,400 anti-aircraft shells were fired sporadically into the dark night sky targeting what was thought to be Japanese assault forces.
The aerial barrage hit nothing. The mysterious event (later known as the “Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942”) inspired Battle: Los Angeles, a high-budget, sci-fi action thriller starring Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) and Lucas Till (The Spy Next Door).
The story revolves around a modern-day platoon of Marines as they encounter an alien invasion in L.A. Could this be the same unknown force behind the Great Air Raid of 1942? Will today’s new technology save the earth from this epic invasion?
