Japanese legendary sneaker makers ASICS Tiger has joined forces with British urban culture label YMC, welcoming an original interpretation of the iconic GEL-LYTE shoes.
The collaboration sees YMC Design Director, Fraser Moss, fuse psychedelic 1970ʼs colour palettes and fabrics with the stark yet beautiful mountains and landscape of the Welsh countryside from his childhood as inspiration. Officially part of the GEL-LYTE XT series, it comes in two color variants, sand/brown storm and gris blue/royal purple.
Notable depth in the detailing is found throughout the shoe with features including the XT (extra traction) rugged outsole, a D-ring construction occupying the space of the middle eyelet, a mountain logo inspired by the outdoor series archive and a quilted vamp & quarter panelling representative of a quilted jacket and sleeping bag combination required for a camping trip.
YMC took the collection to the streets of Newport & the Welsh hills to capture a hikerʼs journey via two cool kids, who wears not only the sneakers, but also the collab’s limited edition capsule collection from hats to T-shirts, outers and socks. The sneakers itself will cost $229, and will be available in both YMC and ASICS Tiger online stores soon.
