In honor of the 140th anniversary of the foundation of the company, the Japanese brand announced a remarkable creation
Grand Seiko has just unveiled a special watch called the Grand Seiko Heritage Collection Seiko 140th Anniversary SLGH007. To honor the 140th anniversary of the foundation of the company, the Japanese brand announced a remarkable creation that embodies founder Kintaro Hattori’s spirit and vision.
Appearance wise, the watch incorporates a dial design that captures the natural beauty of tree rings, as if stretching back to reveal the very roots of Hattori’s story through a series of delicate and organic lines, that echo the intricate rings that denote each year’s growth.
On the other hand, the miniscule but visible variations in the dial’s depth also reveal the subtlety of the dark and light tones of the wood grain, while an almost tactile effect is created by the way the light captures the multi-dimensional texture of the dial. Moreover, the hour hands are large in volume and at the same time crafted to align exactly with the grooved and prominent hour markers, enhancing the legibility of the time.
Beneath the dial, the watch is driven with its highly efficient Dual Impulse Escapement, Grand Seiko free-sprung balance and twin barrel construction. Titled “Caliber 9SA5,” this is a high-beat movement that boasts a power reserve of 80 hours and the best part, the beauty of its finish is revealed through the sapphire crystal case back. If anything, the caliber represents the very finest in modern watchmaking, combining unique technologies with craftsmanship of the highest order.
Finally, as the black dial that delights the eye and warms the heart with its organic feel and brings to life Grand Seiko’s conception of the Nature of Time, the watch is completed with a case that’s crafted from Platinum 950, which makes it even more special.
