The Scottish whisky brand Glenfiddich freshly revealed Grand Yozakura, a limited-edition offering whisky aged for 29 years at Glenfiddich’s Dufftown distillery, which celebrates a harmonious blend of Scottish and Japanese traditions.
Particularly, as the newest addition to the esteemed Grand Series—a collection of exceptional single malt whiskies like Glenfiddich Gran Reserva and Glenfiddich Gran Cru, each distinguished by its avant-garde and experimental approach to cask finishing—Grand Yozakura gains its distinct finish from oak barrels that once held Awamori, the oldest distilled alcoholic drink in Japan called that’s made using long grain Indica rice, resulting in a unique flavor profile.

“We are always looking to experiment with new finishes so when the chance arose to acquire rare ex-Awamori casks, we saw an opportunity to push the boundaries and experiment with this highly unusual spirit. This is the first time that Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been aged in these rare casks,” elaborated Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman.

As such, with rich oak notes, hints of cinnamon and a distinctive herbal zing, the taste itself offers an indulgent layer of toasted oak with creamy vanilla toffee and finished with a long-lasting oak. To top it off, the packaging of Grand Yozakura also complements this harmonious blend, as the Japanese artist June created visions incorporating Japanese culture and landscapes.
