Grand Seiko continues to push the boundaries of horology with its precision craftsmanship and attention to detail. To this end, the world of luxury watches was abuzz with excitement as the novelties unveiled at this year’s Watches and Wonders Geneva by the Japanese brand prove to be nothing short of extraordinary. Particularly, the Tentagraph, the Hand-engraved Manual-winding Spring Drive Limited Edition SBGZ009, and the Spring Drive 8-Day Jewelry Watch SBGD213 stand out as shining examples of the brand’s dedication to innovation and artistry.

Grand Seiko Tentagraph SLGC001

Grand Seiko debuted its first mechanical complication and a series of sports watches from the Evolution 9 Collection last year at Watches and Wonders Geneva. This year, the brand marks a new milestone as Grand Seiko expands its Evolution 9 sports watch offering with its first mechanical chronograph called the Tentagraph. Interestingly, the Tentagraph’s name describes its high-beat rate (Ten beats per second), its long power reserve (Three days), and its function (Automatic chronograph).

Appearance-wise, the dial features Grand Seiko’s signature “Mt. Iwate pattern,” which takes inspiration from the ridged contours of the nearby mountain visible through the windows of the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where the Tentagraph and all other Grand Seiko mechanical watches are hand-assembled and adjusted. Meanwhile, the case and bracelet are made of high-intensity titanium, which is about 30-percent lighter and more scratch resistant than stainless steel to maximize durability.

Grand Seiko showcases another masterpiece from its Micro Artist Studio featuring a fully engraved case for the latest Manual-winding Spring Drive Limited Edition SBGZ009. This piece is a meticulously hand-engraved Platinum 950 watch that comes with the hour and minute hands, as well as each of the hand-applied diamond-cut markers, which are made of 14k white gold to ensure a sharp and brilliant finish.

The watch also features the celebrated Shinshu white birch pattern familiar to Grand Seiko fans, however, with a slightly different tone and a more metallic texture, causing it to shine subtly under the light.

The new Grand Seiko jewelry masterpiece inspired by the white lion combines the precision of Spring Drive, high legibility through carefully placed gems, and exquisite artistry and craftsmanship. The case and dial have 5.62 carats of diamonds and 1.25 carats of blue sapphires, which are all set by hand. Moreover, the case is also treated with a form of Zaratsu polishing specially developed for Platinum 950. In a way, this remarkable creation is in every way a showcase of the ideals of Grand Seiko.
