The TAG Heuer Monaco Bamford

Drawing from the origin story of the iconic Monaco, the TAG Heuer Monaco Bamford edition celebrates the rich heritage of the watchmaking brand. While the Monaco is known as a model that has been consistently renewed since the 1970s, this time TAG Heuer collaborated with the Bamford Watch Department to create a truly unique version of the watch that is more contemporary.

Behind the Scenes
Driven by a passion for engineering excellence and innovation, George Bamford—founder of the Bamford Watch Department—built his personalization house as a means to make watches that were truly exclusive and individual. This vision then set him on a journey of discovery that started a revolution in personalized design. It goes without saying that Bamford is incredibly familiar with the resulting pleasure from creating a unique timepiece.

George Bamford

Actually, this is not the first collaboration between TAG Heuer and the Bamford Watch Department. Last year, customers and fans of the former were offered the opportunity to customize their favorite models courtesy of the latter. Following the success of this venture, TAG Heuer invited George Bamford to help design a new series of the Monaco, which exclusively carries the Bamford name. It was, for one, a way to perpetuate a legendary partnership through a timepiece, as racy as it is everlasting.

The Unprecedented Interpretation
Unveiled at this year’s Baselworld fair, the TAG Heuer Monaco Bamford comes with a style that is both bold and innovative. With a robust carbon case, an elegant black dial and aqua blue chronograph counters, the most iconic timepiece from TAG Heuer has been completely reinvented.

This new version is built with the 39mm square dial and left-hand crown that made TAG Heuer Monaco’s such a success. Meanwhile, the incredibly lightweight and highly resistant carbon case gives the watch a modern and avant-garde touch to the watch. Interestingly, a special mold was created to ensure that the carbon case perfectly matched the dimensions of the TAG Heuer Monaco while also meeting the technical constraints of this specific material.

The trademark of George Bamford is then marked by aquatic blue touches on the luminescent indexes of the chronograph counters and the date window, making it a contemporary classic. Up front, the watch’s black opaline dial sports the Monaco’s two squared sub-dials, with a 30-minute chronograph counter at 9 o’clock and running seconds at 3 o’clock.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Bamford is the perfect combination of the Bamford Watch Department’s modern flair and the avant-garde watchmaking and technical expertise of TAG Heuer. Unsurprisingly, the watch is powered by the self-winding Caliber 11, which is used on all modern iterations of the Monaco. Final touches include a luxurious black alligator leather strap and the words “Monaco Bamford” engraved on the dial and the caseback, along with the watch’s limited edition number as a reminder of the partners in this collaboration.

Final Outcome
After releasing the Monaco in 1969 with a left-side crown as the first square-cased automatic chronograph, TAG Heuer has over the years offered numerous variations of this iconic timepiece. With the boldness of the Bamford Watch Department and TAG Heuer’s watchmaking technique and expertise, the TAG Heuer Monaco Bamford perfectly symbolizes the brand’s pioneering spirit. Whether you’re looking for a futuristic timepiece or watch that is a contemporary classic to add to your collection, this ultimate blend from TAG Heuer and Bamford Watch Department definitely comes well recommended.
