Swiss watch brand TUDOR has a solid tradition of creating dependable and precise divers’ watches. More importantly, TUDOR has a solid tradition of creating divers’ watches for actual use by professional divers, including for the major navies of the world. And from the depths of this maritime tradition, the Pelagos collection was born.
<h2>A WATCH FOR THE HIGH SEAS</h2>
Named after the Ancient Greek word for the high seas, the Pelagos stands out as one of the most “complete” traditional mechanical divers’ watch designs. For one, its waterproofness is guaranteed to a depth of 500 meters. The TUDOR Pelagos is also equipped with a helium escape valve, which prevents damage during saturation dives.

Another strong characteristic of the Pelagos—one that can certainly be appreciated even above the waves—is its superior readability. To that end, TUDOR has incorporated visual elements such as large square hour markers, blue luminescence which remains discernible even at great depths and the famous “snowflake” hour hand which was designed to be easily distinguishable from the minutes hand.
Naturally, the movement of a diver’s watch is of the utmost importance as well. For the longest time, TUDOR has sourced its movements exclusively from Swiss suppliers while setting the bar high in terms of reliability and precision. Then, in 2015, the Pelagos became the first TUDOR watches to be fitted with in-house movements. The TUDOR Manufacture Calibre MT5612, is also chronometer-certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

Next, we move on to the bracelet and rubber strap, which is yet another element that becomes a critical consideration for actual dives while also presenting a noticeable element for everyday wear. In this case, the Pelagos watches are known for their titanium bracelets. These bracelets also come with a unique autoadjustable spring mechanism developed and patented by TUDOR, which allows the bracelet to be adjusted even during a deep dive. A complimentary rubber strap is also included with an extension system. These strap options allow the wearer the flexibility of achieving a unique look, whether dressy or sporty.
<h2>THE PELAGOS FAMILY</h2>
The TUDOR Pelagos lineup includes quite a few different models sharing the same design DNA. First, we have the the Pelagos with blue dial (ref. M25600TB-0001) in a 42mm titanium and steel case featuring a satin finish. This model sports a blue dial flanked by a unidirectional rotatable bezel in titanium with a ceramic matt blue disc. These new models come with the MT5612 COSC-certified movement and a titanium bracelet.
A similar variation of the Pelagos comes with a black dial (ref. M25600TN-0001). The dial and ceramic disc on the bezel are all rendered in black, giving the watch a sleeker look compared to its blue sibling.

Next, we turn to the Pelagos 39, which recently earned distinction by winning the coveted Best Sports Watch prize at the esteemed Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) 2023. As its name implies, this watch comes with a slightly smaller case at 39mm in diameter. What’s most notable about the Pelagos 39, however, is its play of contrasts. The Grade 2 titanium case is entirely satinbrushed, which then contrasts nicely with the sunray satin finish on the bezel insert. The dial also features two contrasting textures: a sunray satin-finished flat disc and a mattfinished flange. As a final flourish, the name “Pelagos” stands out in glossy cherry red at 6 o’clock, adding a disruptive element to the watch’s two-tone aesthetic.

Finally, we come to two rather unique members of the family: the Pelagos LHD and the Pelagos FXD. The former has a distinctive left-handed crown placement (LHD is short for Left Hand Drive) facilitated by the MT5612- LHD movement and is meant for divers who prefer to wear their watch on the right wrist—which means doing adjustments with the left hand. The LHD version is a favorite among collectors for its distinctive design and functionality. The Pelagos FXD meanwhile, springs from a collaboration with the French Navy and is designed for military use, further solidifying the Pelagos as a trusted companion for professional divers.
