Travel Review: W Bangkok

BANGKOK WOW. W Hotels welcomed its newest addition at the start of the new year with the opening of W Bangkok (106 North Sathorn Road,Silom, Bangkok; 662 344 4000; starwoodhotels.com).

The W brand is known for their stylishly luxurious designer hotels and their latest is no exception. Located in the city’s prestigious Embassy Row, the venue designed by Palmer & Turner Architects and Soda Thailand, seamlessly combines classic Thai elements and modernist design to create an alluring, high-energy space. This is easy to see even from the outside. The hotel is comprised of a 31-stories tall glass tower, which includes magnificent lighting at the base that changes color throughout the day, combined with a century-old, European-inspired building that formerly housed the Russian Embassy. Inside the W Lounge and reception area, floor-to-ceiling jeweled lighting installations wow newcomers. Every guest rooms features impressive tech including flat-screen 40-inch LED televisions and jack pack stations with a sound bar system and docking station for audio and video players. On the main floor you’ll find Woobar, a bar which by night turns into one of Bangkok’s hottest new clubs.
