After a highly successful first year of collaboration, TAG Heuer and Porsche are back in the spotlight for the second chapter of their partnership with a new model with a strong sporty feel: the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition
TAG Heuer and Porsche have a lot in common. The two iconic brand share a rich history, an independent and powerful mindset, and a dedication to design excellence. For more than 50 years, their paths also have constantly met and intertwined, both on and off the racetrack.
Then, back in February of last year, TAG Heuer and Porsche formed an ambitious partnership never before created between a car manufacturer and a watchmaker. As the bond between the two was built on motor racing, the strongest commonality between the brands was, undoubtedly, the Carrera. At the time, the start of the collaboration was marked with a special TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph.
This year, this partnership is back under the spotlight as its second chapter is rolled out: The new TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche, a model with a strong sporty feel that will be proposed as a limited edition.
“For this second chapter of our partnership, it seemed natural to continue to weave the thread of our co-creation through the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph but with a completely new approach,” explains TAG Heuer’s CEO Frédéric Arnault. “For this new limited edition, we wanted to emphasize the racing side of the sporty Porsche Carrera. Our teams, in partnership with Porsche, have combined their expertise and creativity to create a timepiece with a powerful design and a bold, sporty look.”
The new TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition is based on the emblematic TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph with an exceptional performance thanks to its in-house Calibre Heuer 02 along with its impressive power reserve of 80 hours. Design-wise, the sportiness of the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph is further enhanced by Porsche’s aesthetic appeal.
In particular, yellow tones are incorporated in various elements of this creation, which is inspired by Porsche ‘s racing yellow PANTONE and reserved by the manufacturer for the sportiest of its vehicles. It is visible on the Porsche logo on the bezel, as well as on the lacquer in the crown and in the graphic details present in small touches on the dial and on the second hand.
On the flip side, another key color in this limited edition is black, which reinforces the brightness of the yellow with a contrasting effect. Interestingly, to bring a touch of sporty sophistication to this new timepiece, TAG Heuer and Porsche designers have used black together with various textures.
At first, the case has been given the highest-quality black treatment possible—diamond-like carbon (DLC), with its extremely elegant deep color and unfailing resistance. On the other hand, the black dial features a texture inspired by the metallic bodywork of cars with a slightly glittery effect, along with the two black asphalt-effect sub-dials.
Furthermore, the watch is also highlighted by a special redesigned oscillating mass in homage to the famous Porsche steering wheel, which is clearly visible through the Sapphire glass case back marked with “Porsche” and “TAG Heuer.”
Produced as a limited edition as indicated by the caption “One of 1,500” and completed with a textile inspired leather strap with double stitching—inspired by the seat upholstery of Porsche cars—it’s safe to say that the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition delivers a perfect harmony of two brands that truly live up to their iconic status.
