From Louis Vuitton to adidas, we take a closer look on how brands can transcend the physical world to find new resonance in virtual spaces.
NFTs (non-fungible tokens) remains one of the most talked-about topics at the start of 2022. For anyone still unfamiliar what it actually means, to put it plain and simple, an NFT refers to a unique digital asset that cannot be copied. Since no two NFTs are the same, it’s one of a kind. As digital assets, they function as valuable items that can be traded in the digital space and they are held in digital or a cold storage hardware wallet the same way cryptocurrencies are.
Intriguingly, the world of fashion has shown an enormous attempt in recent years to adapt and modify fashion for the digital era. On this note, even though there aren’t that many that have jumped to the hype-train yet, quite a few brands are now using NFTs to connect with and attract customers from all over the world. The following are some of the most interesting fashion NFTs to date.
Louis Vuitton: Louis The Game
To mark the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of its founder, this storied maison has unveiled a platform game titled “Louis: The Game.” Fusing advanced animation with two centuries of heritage, the game challenges players to embark on an adventure with Louis Vuitton’s mascot Vivienne through six imaginary worlds to collect 200 Monogram candles as she retraces Louis Vuitton’s story over two centuries while trying to collect fashion accessories and seek out one of the 30 precious NFTs.
adidas for Prada re-source
The adidas for Prada re-source project follows the success of Into the Metaverse—adidas Original’s debut NFT project which was launched in December 2021—and minted 30,000 NFTs to over 21,000 buyers in collaboration with gmoney, PUNKS Comic and arguably the most popular and exclusive NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club. adidas Originals and Prada are set to build on this momentum with an ambitious first-of-its- kind NFT collaboration that will feature user-generated and creator-owned art.
More importantly, the project is also set to bring together participants across fashion, design and crypto to co-create a large-scale digital artwork inspired by the physical Re-Nylon collection.
Burberry x Mythical Games
Burberry announced its partnership with Mythical Games to launch an NFT collection in their flagship title, Blankos Block Party. It is a ground-breaking, multiplayer party game featuring digital vinyl toys known as Blankos that live on a blockchain, inherently providing players with proof of verified ownership and authenticity. Inspired by the brand’s Animal Kingdom house code, the limited edition and limited- quantity Burberry Blanko—a shark named Sharky B—is an NFT that can be purchased, upgraded and sold within
the Blankos Block Party marketplace.
