The God of Thunder, Thor, hits the big-screen

Thor, the Norse God of Thunder and beloved Marvel comic book superhero goes Hollywood in this new film starring Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman.

Hammer time
A comic book character based on Norse mythology, Thor is a powerful but arrogant warrior who was banished from the realm of the Gods to live among humans, where he went on to become one of the race’s finest defenders.

To prepare for this action-packed epic movie, Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek), who was cast as the lead, put on a lot of muscle via a six-month regime of heavy workouts. Also in the movie is Sir Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs) who claims he’d never read a Thor comic nor did he know anything about the mythology, but signed up for the movie anyway because he was intrigued by the role of his character Odin, the father of Thor.

There are a number of other talented actors/actresses in this film, set in modern-day America, including Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Idris Elba (RocknRolla).
