Tait Blum may still be early in his career but he has already built an impressive body of work. After getting his start in Los Angeles as a kid with a simple interest in acting, he has appeared in projects like “For All Mankind,” “Titans” and Netflix’s “Home Team.” Now, with his starring role as Luke Remnick in Apple TV Plus’s “The Last Frontier,” he steps into a more demanding chapter—one that reflects not only his growth but also his determination to keep challenging himself.

DAMAN: What first drew you to acting? Was there a moment when you realized this was something you wanted to pursue seriously? 
Tait Blum: I started acting at 10 years old, which came about quite randomly. I’m not sure if I’d watched too much television or too many movies, but I had a random epiphany that I was “supposed” to be an actor. I expressed this interest to my parents and they were cautiously supportive. My parents put my brother and me in a couple of acting classes in LA and the rest is history.

DA: You began working at such a young age. How do you think growing up on set has shaped who you are today? 
TB: Having grown up in an environment that required me to be sociable with people much older than I was kind of reduced the social timidness I might’ve had when I was younger. And between all the hours spent auditioning and being on set I’ve developed quite a bit of grit.

DA: Who were some of the actors or filmmakers you looked up to when you were starting out? 
TB: When I was first starting out, I really looked up to actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp and River Phoenix. “Stand By Me” was undoubtedly one of the most inspiring films I had seen at the time. 
DA: When you take on a new role, how do you usually get into character? Do you have a process or ritual you rely on? 
TB: I’m still finding my process. It’s an ever-evolving thing. One day I might practice in front of a mirror, another day I might record myself reading lines; it’s not a fixed system for me yet. I’ve said it before but repetition is what I try to focus on.

DA: Acting can be unpredictable and demanding. How do you find balance between work, school and personal time? 
TB: When I’m not on set or traveling somewhere, I’m a real homebody! I love spending time with my family, especially my little brother who I drag with me just about everywhere! Thus far, I’ve kept it pretty balanced.
DA: What kinds of roles or stories are you most drawn to at this point in your life? 
TB: I really love character-driven films, anything that focuses strongly on the interpersonal relationships between characters. That would be my bread and butter.

DA: Looking back so far, is there a role that taught you the most—either about acting or about yourself? 
TB: “The Last Frontier” definitely came with the biggest learning curve for me. This was the first time working as an adult, with my 18th birthday coming mid-shoot. Considering the harsh weather and long hours, I think I’m far more resilient coming out of it than I was going into it.

DA: Congratulations on “The Last Frontier”! What first stood out to you about the story and your character, Luke Remnick? 
TB: Thank you! When we started production, we were fresh off the strikes and I was really eager to sink my teeth into something substantial. Luke’s arc of going from boyhood to manhood was something I was really thrilled to bring to life and something I could relate to in a way. Especially after my first call with Sam Hargrave and Jon Bokenkamp—they were so encouraging and their energy was infectious…I was pumped.

DA: The relationship between Luke and his father, played by Jason Clarke, is intense and emotional. What was it like building that dynamic with him? 
TB: Jason is very strong and intuitive. He knows what he wants going into a scene and he makes sure the creative choices we make are intentional. Even when the camera isn’t on him, he’s giving me the support I need as a scene partner—he’s a real pro.
DA: Now that the series has premiered, how does it feel to see audiences respond to it? 
TB: It’s really exciting for me! Hearing from friends, family and “The Last Frontier” fans about their theories and predictions. Nobody really knows what’s going to happen next! But there’s always a new twist and unknown detail to keep you on your toes.

DA: Big streaming productions often mean long hours and tight schedules. What kept you grounded throughout the shoot? 
TB: The hours are long, the work is hard, yes. But when you really love the project, it doesn’t tend to feel so tiresome. I enjoy being on set, even if I’m not shooting, I just love the atmosphere.

DA: Many young actors talk about finding their voice as they grow in the industry. How are you shaping yours? 
TB: I’m in a learning mindset right now. I’m soaking up as much as possible, aiming to be as well-rounded as I can be. I love writing scripts, watching films—I love the process. Being behind the camera someday is just as big of a goal for me as staying in front of it.

DA: Is there a dream role, genre or director you’d love to work with soon? 
TB: There are so many directors I could name but a few who have impacted me recently would be Alex Garland, Joachim Trier, Damien Chazelle and Edward Berger.
