From metallic hues to extraterrestrial themes, this KENZO collection marries cosmic innovation with tradition

Under Nigo’s creative supervision, KENZO’s most recent collection takes viewers on an engrossing trip that expertly integrates a variety of inspirations to create a singular fashion story. Inspired by the sci-fi worlds of “Star Wars” and the epic narratives of Akira Kurosawa’s samurai flicks, the collection brilliantly blends innovation with tradition.
With its futuristic themes nicely complemented by an unearthly atmosphere, the collection’s campaign is set against the volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. The designs themselves are a tasteful fusion of the past and present, with space-age elements and modern twists on classic Japanese clothing, including hakeshi baten jackets and kimonos. Metallic hues, futuristic patterns and cosmic themes give traditional designs a feeling of progressiveness. A celebration of the great diversity of humans is at the core of this anthology as KENZO highlights how intertwined cultures are. The brand’s idea of connection is emphasized by this inclusive approach, that portrays a world where diversity is accepted and appreciated.
