Stefano Tomadini’s journey from novice model to a rising star in fashion is marked by dedication, continuous learning and staying ever true to himself

Hailing from a small town in Italy, Stefano Marshall never envisioned himself as a model. It wasn’t until after the COVID lockdowns were lifted that he decided to give modeling a try. Thus began a new career path that has since become his passion. Despite initial uncertainties, Marshall gradually made headways into the business, learning and growing with each new experience. Reflecting on this, Marshall says: “I actually never thought I would become a model. I only started after the world opened up again and gave it a shot. Now, I’m still trying to make my way while learning day by day.”

Stepping in front of the camera for the very first time was a peculiar experience for Marshall. He recalls initially feeling quite awkward, but as he continued to work on more shoots, he started gaining confidence and learned valuable lessons from those around him—from fellow models to photographers, stylists and directors. Naturally, Marshall’s approach to modeling has evolved significantly since those early days. While he maintains a mindset focused on hard work and readiness, he has become much more familiar with the industry’s intricacies as he continues to shed his initial shyness. “It was definitely quite weird at first,” Stefano admits, “then, following shoot after shoot, you start to gain confidence and experience, as you continuously try to learn from the people around you.”

That is one of the best parts of the job: to be able to connect with very different styles and visions is challenging and exciting

Reflecting on his career, Marshall actually finds it difficult to pinpoint a single standout moment. He values every job and experience for the lessons they provide. More to the point, he likes to think that the best moments are still ahead of him. So, he approaches the pressure and competition of the modeling industry with a unique perspective, believing that true competition lies within oneself. To that end, Marshall focuses on self-improvement, preparing himself mentally and physically to excel in the demanding industry.

Still, it’s quite refreshing to hear how a model such as Marshall has developed a healthy relationship with fashion. While his professional life revolves around the latest designs and the most elaborate garments, Marshall has never really focused too much on it while not on set. “I don’t actually follow fashion that much,” he says of his personal preferences, “and I’m definitely not obsessed about it.”

Tomadini’s personal style, while distinct, does not heavily influence his modeling work. Instead, he draws inspiration and energy from the teams he collaborates with. This positive energy and infectious creativity play a significant role in his professional life. In fact, adapting to the different styles and visions of each photographer he works with is one of the aspects that Marshall enjoys most about his job. He thrives on the challenges and the excitement of connecting with diverse creative minds which, again, allows him to learn from each experience.

Aside from modelling, fitness is a cornerstone of Marshall’s life, as he finds it crucial for maintaining his mental and physical well-being. His workout routine is a vital part of his daily regimen and helps him stay focused on his goals and projects. Even preparing for a photoshoot often involves a workout, as Marshall finds the routine both awakening and relaxing, setting the tone for the day’s work.

Outside of his day job, Marshall enjoys cooking, freediving and outdoor activities that provide an adrenaline rush. His passion for cooking, particularly Italian classics, is a skill honed by his parents, and allows him to blend his love for healthy living with culinary creativity.

Throughout his journey, Marshall has learned that while he cannot control everything that happens, he can control his responses. This lesson has profoundly influenced his approach to life and work. It also guides him to align his thoughts and actions, as he endeavors to stay true to himself. As Marshall continues to navigate the world of modeling, his story remains a testament to the power of resilience, hard work and the pursuit of one’s passions.

As mentioned earlier, one of Marshall’s guiding philosophies is the belief in self-competition. He states: “Competition is only with yourself and who you were yesterday. I’m not worried about anyone else.” This perspective has allowed him to maintain a healthy mindset in an industry known for being immensely competitive. By focusing on personal growth and self-improvement, Marshall manages to keep a balanced and positive outlook.
