Sony Entertainment Announced Play At Home Initiative

PlayStation is encouraging the gamer community to stay home and play—on them.

Social distancing is still well in place and to support this global directive, Sony’s PlayStation has announced its “Play at Home” initiative. The initiative has two components: First, providing free games to help keep the PlayStation community entertained at home. Second, establishing a fund to help smaller independent game studios who may be experiencing financial difficulties building great experiences for all gamers.

PlayStation 4 owners are given free access to two games: “Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection” and “Journey,” which can be downloaded from April 15 to May 5, 2020. And once redeemed, they’re free to keep. “Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection” includes the first three entries in Nathan Drake’s adventure: “Drake’s Fortune,” “Among Thieves” and “Drake’s Deception.” PlayStation users in China and Germany, however, will have “The Nathan Drake Collection” swapped for “Knack 2.”

As for the creative funding initiative, Sony has earmarked USD10 million to support their independent development partners currently struggling with financial problems. More information about the funds, such as participation criteria and more will be announced in the future.
