Givenchy enters a new era under the creative direction of Sarah Burton, whose Fall/Winter 2025 collection marks her much-anticipated debut for the house. Burton is no stranger to the spotlight. For years she has been celebrated for meticulous craftsmanship and an avant-garde sensibility, producing collections that balance conceptual daring with timeless beauty. Her work balances drama and wearability, where precision in cut meets an almost sculptural approach to silhouette.
Burton’s debut for Givenchy reflects that same sensibility. This fall/winter collection reveals not only her technical brilliance but also her sensitivity to the maison’s legacy. In her own way, Burton manages to distill its rich archives while injecting her forward-looking creative energy into each piece. The result is a body of work that feels distinctly Burton yet unmistakably Givenchy: couture-infused, theatrical at times, but rooted in the codes of elegance and refinement that have defined the house for decades.

At the start of her Givenchy journey, Burton immersed herself in the maison’s history, where she uncovered intricate patterns from Hubert de Givenchy’s 1952 debut collection. This encounter reignited her passion for pattern-cutting, which is a skill central to her design philosophy. As the collection took shape—from fittings to crafting in Givenchy’s studios and ateliers—the archives guided the rhythm of Burton’s debut. Quite fittingly, the collection was unveiled at 3, Avenue George V, the historic home of the house since 1955. It was a fitting backdrop for her artistic vision.
Masculine Codes, Feminine Lines

Across 52 looks, Burton redefined menswear-inspired tailoring through a feminine lens. By applying masculine techniques to fluid silhouettes, she created pieces that conveyed sharpness, structure and power. Drawing on her couture expertise, she incorporated intricate cuts, balancing strong shoulders with hourglass waists to reflect the multifaceted modern woman. “I want to address everything about the modern woman—strength, vulnerability, emotional intelligence and a sense of powerful sensuality,” Burton explains.
Menswear influences were especially evident in defining jackets, coats and trousers, where precise shapes and bold proportions took the lead. Yet Burton ensured these pieces never felt severe. Luxurious fabrics softened the lines, highlighting her mastery of tailoring techniques. Further experimentation yielded striking details, from backless dresses to oversized scarves styled as bow ties, adding unexpected layers of sophistication.
Perhaps most striking was Burton’s revival of Chantilly lace. Reimagined as micro-length dresses, the lace elongated the body while evoking a contemporary, almost rebellious sensuality. At the same time, 1950s-inspired foundations, complete with bullet bras, provided both historical reference and daring provocation.

Accessories echoed the masculine-feminine balance of the ready-to-wear. Burton paired structured silhouettes with delicate touches of tulle and ribbon, creating harmonious contrasts. Standout pieces such as patent leather square-toe loafers and round-toe slippers complemented suit-inspired looks, reinforcing a cohesive, empowered persona for the modern woman. Burton also introduced two new bags—The Pinch and The Facet—offered as clutches and shoulder bags, alongside jeweled and micro-metal evening clutches.
Dual Perspectives
The menswear influence within the women’s collection also lends itself to androgynous wearability, allowing men to incorporate these pieces into their own wardrobes. Jackets, trench coats and tailored trousers emerge as timeless staples for any modern gentleman. Naturally, this aesthetic is also apparent in the Fall 2025 men’s collection, where precise cuts and sharp silhouettes brought a heightened sense of sophistication to every look.

As Givenchy steps into this new chapter, Burton’s vision is set to push boundaries while inspiring fresh perspectives. Her instinct for couture craftsmanship has laid a strong foundation for what lies ahead, all while remaining faithful to the maison’s heritage. To that end she notes, “To go forward, you have to go back to the beginning. To me, that’s about the atelier. It’s the heart and soul of Givenchy.”
